Marriages and Deaths from The Carlisle Herald and Expositor (Carlisle, PA.) 1837-1844
Used, softcover. Very Good Condition, some curling to corners. Published 1999 by Closson Press.
From the Introduction, paragraphs 2 and 3: This book concentrates only on the marriages and deaths of the area from the obituary column, usually on page 3 or 4. These tended to be brief, giving only the bare facts. A few are quite lengthy and give much personal information about the deceased.
Nevertheless, it is hoped that this book will be of help to those searching for ancestors in Cumberland County. The Register of Wills has birth and death records from 1894-1905 and marriage records from 1885. Probate records are available from 1750. This book may help fill the gap before the county’s records began.

Documents Relating to the Colonial History of the State of New Jersey, First Series Vol. 23 parts 1 and 2. Calendar of New Jersey Wills, Vol. 1 1670-1730, with an Introductory Note of the Early Testamentary Laws and Customs of New Jersey. Used. Paperback in two volumes, sold as set. Good Condition. Some Library Markings.
From the Preface: “For an intimate revelation of social conditions in New Jersey during the first sixty-five years of English Supremacy it would be difficult to imagine a volume richer in material than this. From about 1680 it was the general practice to deposit wills with the Provincial Secretaries…together with inventories of estates, accounts of executors and administrators, and other papers pertaining to such matters, and many odd documents having no apparent relation thereto –as ante-nuptial contracts, marriage licenses and the like. The records were brought together in 1790 or shortly thereafter, in the office of the Secretary of State at Trenton…”

First Two Orphans Court Books (1825-Mid-1839)
From the Introduction: For the years covered in the first two Orphans Court Books (1804 to the middle of 1839), the northern part of Lawrence County is included, involving present-day townships of Plaingrove, Washington, Scott, Hickory, Neshannock, Wilmington, Mahoning, and Pulaski townships. Wilmington Twp, Mercer Co, borders Wilmington Twp Lawrence County, it should be noted. The 1810 Map applies with one exception. About 1832 (the year is somewhat controversial), Hickory Twp, Mercer County, was formed from the northern part of Shenango Twp and southern part of Pymatuning Twp. The researcher should keep in mind that both Lawrence and Mercer have Shenango, Hickory, and Wilmington townships. Sheango Twp, Lawrence County, even though bordering New Castle, was an Old Beaver County Township.

Wills of Chester County, Pennsylvania 1778-1800
Based on the Abstracts of Jacob Martin
Used, sofcover, 351 pgs., incl. index. Good Condition, some Library Markings. Published 1998 by Family Line Publications.
From the Introduction, Paragraphs 1 & 2: The Wills of Chester County were first Abstracted by Jacob Martin of Marshallton, Pennsylvania and indexed by the indefatigable Gilbert Cope.
The abstracts done by Jacob Martin appear to be accurate and complete. Some minor corrections have been added. Recently it was noted by the Chester County Historical Society that the abstract of the will of James Whitaker was in error in what Martin had incorrectly given Whitaker’s son’s name as Edward Clayton which during mid 1700s would have suggested that Edward was a son-in-law and husband to daughter Ann Clayton. An examination of the original will showed Edward Whitaker to be the son of James Whitaker while daughter Ann Clayton is mentioned as having a husband, but unnamed. This error occurs in our earlier volume for the period, 1748. This volume was also checked against the original volume with only a few corrections noted. Nevertheless, the reader is cautioned that the original should be examined whenever possible. All wills covered by this volume are available on microfilm through Family history Centers (LDS).

Searching For Your Ancestors – 4th Edition
Used, hardcover with Dust Jacket, 212 pgs. including index. Good Condition. Published 1973, Second printing 1978.
This book is intended to be an introduction to the method of searching for elusive and forgotten ancestors. It has been written primarily for the individual who has always thought that he would look up the family tree, but never got around to it. The average person never does get around to it, mainly because they do not know where to start, and feel a bit sheepish, perhaps about asking a librarian for directions. This book is designed also for librarians of the public library in order that they may have something to put in the hands of patrons who have decided to look up their ancestors and come to them for advise.

American Place Names of Long Ago
A Republication of the Index to Cram’s Unrivaled Atlas of the World as Based on the Census of 1890

NEW, Hard cover, 347 Pgs. Published 1998 by GPC, 1999 edition.
Urban and suburban development probably has been the greatest cause of the disappearance of American place names of the past from present atlases, road maps, telephone directories, and new census tabulations. There have been other man-made causes also, such as flooding of land through the creation of reservoirs and lakes. Some deliberate name changes have been made without any attendant changes of landscape. Thus there are a variety of reasons why a place name that served its purpose well enough long ago may not be found in a modern finding tool. When one is looking for persons – one’s own ancestors or someone else’s – the story behind the disappearance of a place name is immaterial. Just finding where on a map that place was, in order to search for records, is the objective.

Used, hard cover, 481 pgs. including index; illustrations & maps. Published 2000 by the Rhode Island Genealogical Society.
Quote for the Author:
With much encouragement from friends and family, I decided to make the diary accessible to all readers. I transcribed it in chronological order, reuniting all entries under the date they describe, and then set out to identify as many of the people named as possible. What began as a purely genealogical adventure turned into much more. To understand the diary it was necessary to explore the political and legal setting which Tillinghast wrote, the vocabulary of ship building and herbal medicine, and the mechanics of colonial craftsmanship…..

So, I gathered up my collection and my notes and put this together as best as I could. Times, along the way of gathering this information, found gates locked, found maps incorrect, found us wandering around – hunting, to be the main part of our journey to this end. Used, hard cover, 210 pgs. including appendix and index. Like new condition. Published 1987 by Gateway Press Inc., Baltimore, MD.
No work is perfect and this one is no exception, but documented information is sprinkled liberally throughout this book in an effort to seek out the facts. After all, an old family bible, with written data and family information consisting of names and dates passed down through the generations, is enough to make many people believe that it’s the gospel truth. And while that may be, but it is only in documenting the facts that the true story begins to unfold. This is one of the purposes of compiling a book about the Wartenbe’s.
As spoken by the Author.

This register was originally prepared by Ulrich Simmendinger after his return to Germany from this country where he had been in the Palatine migration for seven years. The preface sets forth his reason for coming and returning. The Register throws light on the limited information we possess relative to the early struggles of the hardy Palatines who first settled along the Hudson and later, the Mohawk Valley. The Author explains why he published the book, which was a sort of message from the colony overseas to friends and relatives back home from Germany.

The probate records of colonial New Hampshire constitute an invaluable resource for historical and genealogical studies. They were first published by the State as Volume 31 through 39 of the State Papers series under the direction of several editors between 1907 and 1941. They were printed in limited editions, have been out of print for many years, and have been very difficult to find in antiquarian books shops except for an occasional odd volume, so this reprint edition should do much to facilitate research on colonial New Hampshire.
In these volumes will are transcribed in full, while all other probate records, such as administrations, bonds, inventories, petitions, licences, etc. are given in abstract form. Lots plans are occasionally given for real estate. All volumes contain place and name indexes.

The Complete Ancestry of Tennessee Williams
Used, hard cover, 489 pgs. including index. Good condition, wear to cover. Published 1993 by author.
Thomas Lanier Williams is the name that resonates with Tennessee history. It is entirely fitting that the artist who bore this prominent East Tennessee name is almost universally known to the public as “Tennessee” Williams. As a playwright, Tennessee Williams is generally acknowledged to be in the first rank of writers of the twentieth century. Yet he never lived in Tennessee for any appreciable length of time and rarely visited the home state of so many of his father’s ancestors.

Thunder Over New England
Benjamin Bonnell, the Loyalist

Used, Hard Cover with dust jacket, 103 pgs. with illustrations and maps. Excellent condition, wear to dust cover. Published 1988 by author.
Thunder over New England, Benjamin Bonnell, The Loyalist can only be described as a struggle for individual rights and survival during a very turbulent time in American/British history. Between 1770 and 1783 America, the adolescent child, outgrew its mother’s security and went out into the world on its own. Many people suffered because of that. As in any revolution there are always losers, and the really big losers are always the little people – the farmer, the laborer and the the small business person.
